Weekend in Narragansett, Rhode Island

Last weekend I traveled with my sorority to Narragansett, Rhode Island. It was one of the first weekends where it felt like spring! The vacation town was quiet because it is still the off season.

Narragansett is just under a two hour car ride. If you are looking to get out of the city this was a fast and easy vacation spot. We rented zipcars and I walked 10 minutes to my car which was conveniently parked in a parking garage.

Our first stop- Food! We found a local hot spot called Crazy Burger Cafe and Juice Bar. The Cafe is a health nuts dream, and even if you aren't a health nut you will quickly fall in love with the sweet potato fries. I had a vegan burger and fresh squeezed carrot and ginger juice. It was amazing. All us girls gave it two thumbs up!

On the way back to the car we found an open art gallery...

After lunch I headed out with a few sisters to the beach. The wind coming off the water made it feel a lot colder so we bundled up. I always find the beach calming at it was great to just look watch the water and hear the waves crashing.

On day two the weather was a little warmer and another group of hit the beach! I wanted to see the "castle ruins" as we called them. This stone structure probably wasn't a castle but we dubbed it that.

This was an amazing weekend getaway! I definitely recommend it!

Progress with the Prison Book Program documentary!

8:23 PM Reporter: Maria 0 Responses
As I mentioned a few weeks back, I am currently working on a documentary about the Prison Book Program (http://www.prisonbookprogram.org/). In a nutshell, the Program is a non-profit that sends books to prisoners who are incarcerated all over the country. The program started in the early 1970s. Yesterday, my partner and I finally were able to sit down with a key interviewee. Her name is Fran and she has been a PBP volunteer since its birth. The interview went great! She also was able to get us in touch with a former prisoner who was involved with PBP. His name is Bobby and he was in jail for over 40 years for robbing banks. We are meeting with him next Wednesday and I am so excited to meet him. Every interview so far has been from volunteers. I want to hear and see someone who has been touched by this program and hear his story and see how the PBP has changed his life.

Here is a behind the scenes look of us setting up for the interview!

Dave Carty and I discussing the shot and the lighting.

This is what the final shot looked like. We did end up dimming the key light so that Fran's face wasn't so bright.

The final shot looked so great thanks to these boys professional insight!
